Drivers are increasingly taking to Twitter to warn fellow motorists, who may have been sipping some spiked eggnog before getting behind the wheel, about the location of police roadside checks.
Drivers are increasingly taking to Twitter to warn fellow motorists, who may have been sipping some spiked eggnog before getting behind the wheel, about the location of police roadside checks.
Calgary Police Chief Rick Hanson complained about the phenomenon this week, saying he is astounded that anyone would want to assist an impaired driver who is effectively endangering lives by getting behind the wheel.

Twitter is, in many ways, the backchannel of social media. Journalists, designers, celebrities and politicians use it to connect one on one and en mass.
But thousands of businesses call the micro-blogging platform home as well. Using it to engage their community, entertain fans, and convert followers into word of mouth customers.
We thought it was about time we took a closer look at what brands are using Twitter the best. This is a tough nut to crack, so we pulled in some hired guns to help us make the call.
But as I said, we need your help to get started.

Review of Free Expression in Canada 2010/2011

Canadian Journalists for Free Expression (CJFE) presents a discussion about the state of access to information in Canada on May 10, sponsored by NOW Magazine. CBC Radio One’s The Current’s Anna Maria Tremonti will host, with expert panellists Ottawa Deputy Bureau Chief Dean Beeby of the Canadian Press, former Information Commissioner John Reid and investigative journalist with CTV’s W5, Paula Todd.
World Press Freedom Day

Previously a global leader, Canada has fallen behind in promoting and protecting freedom of information. Last year, CJFE gave a failing grade to the Harper government’s access to information policies, citing delayed response times and federal agencies invoking national security at the drop of a hat to restrict information.

At the event, which marks World Press Freedom Day, CJFE will release its second annual “Review of Free Expression in Canada 2010/2011.” Paula Todd will discuss the Review’s assessment of the performance of Canada’s major institutions on free speech. The Review also explores hate speech, Wikileaks, whistleblowing and the protection of sources.

UK Press Complaints Commission to regulate Twitter

May 6, 2011 - Posted by Lauren McKeon
The Press Complaints Commission in the UK is expected to start regulating reporter and Twitter feeds, according to a recent article in the Guardian.
The Commission believes that certain postings are part of a newspaper's editorial product, and should be treated as such.
