Twitter’s birthday: Six tweet years already?

Twitter is now six years away from that first 140 characters-or-less tweet from co-founder Jack Dorsey: “Just setting up my twttr.” Back then the company had just 5 employees exactly six years ago yesterday. Now there are more than 800 and they aim to have 1,000 by the end of the year. It took three years, two months and one day to reach a billion tweets on the site. In 2011, 60 billion tweets were sent out.
They have more than 100 million users right now (though Facebook has more than 800 million).

BCE Inc. (BCE-T40.06-0.12-0.30%) has struck a $3-billion deal to acquire Astral Media Inc. (ACM.A-T36.250.350.97%), boosting the media content of the telecommunications giant in Quebec and positioning Bell better against Montreal-based media and telecom rival Quebecor Inc. (QBR.B-T35.93-0.37-1.02%).  The two companies announced the $50-a-share cash-and-stock deal Friday, valuing it at about $3.38-billion, including debt of $380-million.

Canadian ISPs Want New Internet Billing Plans from CRTC

The country's independent service providers want the latest Internet billing and pricing schemes thrown out. So, too, documents reveal, the country's largest providers.
The Canadian Network Operators Consortium, representing smallers ISPs like Primus, Teksavvy and Telnet, has asked the telecom and broadcast regulator to start again in its look at setting wholesale rates for Internet usage.
